Philomena is an experienced therapist with more than 18 years’ experience working in education and mental health, 13 of those years having been in providing quality therapy to couples and individuals. She has lived on four continents including Africa for 22 years, and Southeast Asia for 28 years, so she is interested in cultural impacts between couples, and where one or both partners have lived or worked internationally.

Her therapeutic approach includes psychodynamic, Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), person-centred and integrative. She has a specialist interest in working with couples using evidence-based approaches like EFT, which draws upon ideas of how early attachment can affect the way we attach in adult life. The approach looks to build closeness and bonding to create a safe and loving connection. EFT has been demonstrated by research to be a highly effective model for couples therapy, with an enduring effect on the quality of a couple’s relationship.
